I've finally finished "Crime and Punishment" and...find myself, with this book, extremelely impressed by Dostoyevsky's writing abilities. (I read in "Notes" in college and yet didn't feel quite as moved.) I know that must sound pretty grossly naive, simple and pretentious all at once--this is of course FIDOR DOSTOYEVSKY we're discussing--but I'm not the type of person to be so easily convinced by the assignment of defintive iconic literary brilliance by the amorphous 'everyone.' Finished Miller's ToC. Mixed feelings. I don't think I'll be reading the next 'installment.' An interesting read but a sort of deliberately crass for crass sake kind of read. Next on the list I think...Crime and Punishment. No comments

So I've been reading Tropic of Cancer on and off for a couple of days now (not for the reasons you might think...esp those of you who've seen that "Seinfeld" episode) and don't know quite where it's going. I suppose like The Stranger it's one of those reads best digested within the confines of academia...to properly evaluate and appreciate the similes, analogies, imagery blah blah blah-de-blah. But I dunno...so far, there has been the visceral stream of consciousness convulotion, religious and ethnic... One comment

So it's been a week or two now....and I don't know how to take the silence from the general membership here with anything but dismay--sprinkled perhaps with a very mild humiliation. What else is the knowledge (by way of the handy 'who's viewed my profile' option) of who has deemed you worthy of only a cursory profile glance and nothing more--not even a benign, very non-committal hello?! Ouch. But this is essentially the experience I signed up for, is it not? You don't exactly subscribe to a site... 2 comments
